Ah Summertime!

Ah Summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. – Russel Baker

Intense heat, bright sunshine, beautiful flowers, and a little bit of suffering is ours in late summertime. I’ve had a busy last few weeks working,  canning and freezing summer fruit, and watering. Watering is now a daily chore as I try to keep my flowers alive in this heat.   About this time of year when the temperatures climb into the high 90′s, I begin to look towards the new season with a bitter sweet longing. I will miss the flowers, the warm sunshine, the fruit fresh from the farms.  And yet I long for cool crisp autumn days, pumpkins and leaves on the ground.  Ah…summertime!

I *love* that picture. I can’t stop looking at it.

Thanks Sandra! I fell in love with it. I took the photo a few weeks ago at a beautiful farm we visited. We walked around looking at the flowers and suffered in the heat! Have a wonderful weekend.

Always such beauty here. It was 40 F this morning with 70′s by afternoon; lovely time of year.

I laughed when I read the quote. I dislike being hot, yet can’t wait to embrace the heat and play in the sun. Your photograph is amazing.

“suffer and like it”…priceless! I love it when the heat and humidity is so oppressive you can only slow down! Blessings!

Summertime is always a challenge… filled with gorgeousness on one hand and irregular needfulness of flowers, grass, and fruit/veg jobs. I was jumping up and down in my car while driving [not very safe, wouldn't you say?] when it was RAINING while I was driving up from Kansas City to Omaha. It has not rained hardly at all this summer and to have that happening just caused rejoicing. Summery hot now, here and there, but when I arrive in Tacoma in late October it’ll already be cold. Maybe you won’t be as busy and we can play. Sounds good to me!! Bless you Gayle.

Beautiful picture, Gayle! Around here, the leaves are just beginning to show a bit of color, and August has been surprisingly cooler than July. A few mornings in the 50s expected here next week. Children are already back in school … and I’m definitely feeling myself starting to turn toward acorns and pumpkins!
